Urgent Action Needed: Introducing LCAP’s Groundbreaking Book on Long Covid
Read The 14 Principles! 📕
Dear Public Herald Subscribers,
Today is Long Covid Awareness Day, and Public Herald Studios is proud to announce the release of a vital new resource in the fight against Long Covid: A National Treatment and Research Agenda for Long Covid, authored by the Long Covid Action Project (LCAP) CURE and Steering Committees — founded by our own Joshua Boaz Pribanic.
This book is more than a call to action — it’s a blueprint for change. Modeled after the historic 1989 document by HIV/AIDS activists that transformed NIH’s approach to that crisis, LCAP’s work outlines 14 principles to overhaul how government and industry address Long Covid drug testing. These principles demand urgent shifts toward:
Long Covid Biomarkers
Calling for transcriptomic RNA viral load and immune biomarker testing
And standardizing multi-omics in clinical settings and research
Research recommendations into SARS-CoV-2 viral persistence
Solutions for immune system changes linked to Long Covid
Pediatric focus in research
Antiviral, mAbs, pAbs and other drugs of interest (includes an Appendix of 50+ drugs)
Why does this matter? “As of 2024, an estimated 17% of U.S. adults (45 million Americans) have had Long Covid, in addition to more than 5.8 million children affected by the disease.” More than 400 people worldwide are suffering from prolonged health impacts tied to SARS-CoV-2 viral persistence — a reality that demands recognition as a national public health emergency by HHS. Yet, current research agendas lag behind patient needs.
LCAP’s book bridges this gap. It serves as a foundation to prioritize effective trials, therapeutics, and public policy that address the root causes of Long Covid, doing away with symptom-focussed agendas.
